Bowerchalke sits in a fine stretch of countryside, part of Cranborne Chase, fairly equidistant between Shaftesbury, Salisbury and Blandford Forum. Although far from immune to modernity, not much that is really fundamental has changed since Neolithic-to-Saxon inhabitants left ritual, burial, defensive and farming marks across the Chalke Valley landscape. This is a good place for quiet reflection, and we do that.
For anyone who can get along to our meetings, Bowerchalke Buddhist Meditation Group offers help when beginning meditation as well as support for the maintenance of a long-term meditation practice. Meetings are held at Bowerchalke Village Hall (Postcode: SP5 5BB; OS: SU01862 23091) on Tuesdays from 6-7pm and Wednesdays from 10-11am; sometimes extending towards noon for tea and conversation.
There is a 45-minute meditation session within those meetings, which may sound rather long, but a bell to mark 10-minute intervals makes it manageable.
If you like, download the Meditation Handbook, check the calendar for certainty that a particular meeting is running, then just turn up. Alternatively, you can contact Jack Kennedy, the facilitator, for more information.
Meditation at Bowerchalke is free of charge, although donations are welcome, to help with costs such as room hire.
