Bowerchalke sits in a fine stretch of countryside, fairly equidistant between Shaftesbury, Salisbury and Blandford Forum, and within Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and International Dark Sky Reserve. Although far from immune to modernity, not much that is truly fundamental has changed hereabouts since Neolithic-to-Saxon inhabitants left their ritual, burial, defensive and farming traces across the Chalke Valley downland. This landscape encourages quiet reflection, and that is what we do.
Since 2014, Bowerchalke Buddhist Meditation Group has offered help when beginning meditation, as well as support for the maintenance of a long-term, life-changing meditative practice. We are informally associated with Gaia House Retreat Centre, and welcome everyone, irrespective of religious belief.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. There is usually a 45-minute meditation session within those meetings. That may sound like a long time, but a bell struck to mark each 10-minute interval makes it easily manageable.
If you are interested, download the Meditation Handbook, check the calendar for certainty that a particular meeting is running, and use the contact page of this website to get in touch with Jack Kennedy, the facilitator, who will provide more information and directions to the venue.
Meditation at Bowerchalke is free of charge, although donations are welcome to help with costs.
